Moving into coloured wood dyes, there is a company called bolgers (link below) that supplies powder water soluble wood dyes. These are very cheap where most of the colours are about £4 each and all you need to do is mix them in 1 litre of hot tap water.

This video shows the colours I have and some testing on how these work with the air brush along with mixing colours to create your own.
