I made a sealed money box not so long ago. That one is nearly full and don't want to break into and empty it for a while. That video only had some of the making of that. This one is much bigger. The Spalted Silver Birch was really punky, which is so obvious when I use the parting tool on the ends at the beginning of the video. Even the skew with a knife cut couldn't take it all out. In the end I had to use some 2 part epoxy on the top to help sort out the tear out. The cap fitted is designed with the domed bottom so that getting money out by tipping it up side down is not going to be a quick process. The mortice on the base is so that I can remount this on the lathe if I decide to use it again when it is emptied (drilling out the top to empty) where I can make another cap.
This was all sanded to 400, sanding sealer and finished with Melamine lacquer. After leaving over night each time that was evened out and buffed using Yorkshire Grit.
