When Scott Brown, the teabagger candidate, won the senatorial election in Massachusetts, I thought it would be fitting to review BOB ROBERTS, the very funny 1992 mockumentary written, directed and starring Tim Robbins. It's the story of a folk-singing, conservative faux-populist who seemingly comes out of nowhere to challenge an incumbent democrat for a Pennsylvania senatorial seat. But as I watched the film, it became clear that candidate Roberts isn't as much Scott Brown as Sarah Palin, whipping sell-out crowds into a bigoted, conservative frenzy based on a cult of personality with not a single new, interesting or effective idea to back it up.
