I bought a BMW R1200GS Adventure motorcycle a couple of months ago. While I mostly plan to tour on pavement, I certainly want to be able to explore gravel roads, double track, bad pavement, etc. Thus I'm practicing in a relatively controlled and contained environment so that I have confidence when faced with gravel when on an actual ride.
This was my second time out. The first time I simply rode up to the parking lot, did a couple of loops and left in one piece and was happy :-).
One of my goals today was to get used to riding gravel more (minimally) aggressively and to start gingerly testing the limits of traction in a (very) controlled way. I feel like I succeeded, and left with much more confidence. I will be back to practice more!
