Mouthpieces: Laskey 65MC (solo trumpet) & Marcinkiewicz E19/E7 (for a few high notes on the background trumpet part)
Flugelhorn (on first six notes only): Olds Clark Terry
Flug Mouthpiece: Laskey 65MC
Microphone: Royer R-122
Mic Preamp: PreSonus with vintage Telefunken 12AX7 tube (for added warmth)
All into a Tascam DP-008
Mixed and reverberated onboard the Tascam
Normalizing done on the laptop in Cool Edit Pro.

This song was written for my Boston Terrier, Bailey, who is always being pestered by the many squirrels we have. (I have a huge Oak and a pretty large Walnut tree in my backyard). Anyway, I digitally altered my voice so I would sound like a cartoon squirrel. I dont often do goofy tunes, but I have to admit, this one was pretty fun putting together. I hope you enjoy! Dave

I finally found out what this song was called the other day and decided Id like to try a cover of it. Its called, New Soul and its by Yael Naim, from her self-titled 2007 album. Its not a very difficult song (unless you put a bunch of crazy pentatonic runs and high notes in it, which I might just do- Im testing that part out, LOL!), but its such a catchy song! I like it! I think youll like it too!
This is a very rough run-through. Actually I had just eaten a half bag of popcorn and then decided to record this! (I dont really recommend eating popcorn before playing the trumpet- the popcorn skin gets stuck in your teeth!)
I used my Tascam DP008 recorder with its built-in microphone. Thats why you kind of hear the trumpet coming in and out. And on the high stuff at the end, I actually had to place myself as far back from the mic as I could in my small recording room/booth! ;-)
