The video is the second video in the series "Blender and 3D printing". In this video, I outline a simple design process and define a simple production pipeline workflow with Blender to create models for 3D printing. Here is the link to the first video youtube.com/watch?v=t2tPCY5p6wU&t=577s.
I draw a first sketch with the Blender grease pencil tool and use some addons that support the design process in Blender, such as the measureIt addon and the STL export addon. MeasureIt is an add-on for displaying measures in the viewport to provide exact metrics during the design process. The STL export add-on allows the conversion of the Blender file format into the STL file format (STereoLithography, Standard Tessellation Language). With Blender I create a coffee cup coaster model, a less complex model that is easy to design and handle in subsequent process steps. We will improve the design in the upcoming videos.
The Blender model is exported to STL and imported into the Slicer software. We will use CURA version 3.x as slicer software by cutting out our model to create a printable 3D model.
At least we will print the model on a 3D printer. In this case, the Anycubic I3 Mega. Details on configuring and preparing CURA will be available in the next episode of this series.
