Black Women have long been stereotyped by society as being mean and angry.
However, this conversation is NOT about perpetuating that stereotype.
It is not about generalizing or reducing Black Women to a caricature.
This is an honest, courageous, and necessary conversation about our interpersonal dynamics as Black Women — and an invitation to each of us to self-reflect on the ways we may individually contribute to what some have called the mean girl energy.*
This Sunday, I will be joined by Erin Braxton, Host/Creator of @CoffeeNoCreamLive , Business Systems & Process Architect, Designing Clear, Scalable Systems for Teams, and Speaker.
We will discuss why society's narrative of the 'angry Black Woman' is a distortion — and how internalized oppression causes us to sometimes act out that distortion on each other.
This conversation will cover the following:
✔️ Why society's narrative of the angry Black Woman is a distortion — and how internalized oppression causes us to sometimes act out that distortion on each other
✔️ The psychology of social comparison jealousy — what it is, where it comes from, and how it shows up in Black Women's relationships across every area of life
✔️ The difference between jealousy and envy — and why that distinction matters for how we heal
✔️ How negative family socialization messages about other Black Women shape how we see and treat each other before we even enter the workplace or the world
✔️ The scarcity mindset — where it comes from and how it turns potential allies into perceived competitors
✔️ Relational aggression — the specific ways Black Women can harm each other that are often subtle, invisible, and deeply painful
