I like Black Escapism, but there will always be political discourse by virtue of our identities being politicised. I'm not interested in being white. I don't envy the apolitical nature of white shows, nor do I aspire to imitate it by feigning ignorance in reality television. That never works, and it ain't a good look. Not all our media has to be about struggle, but not all of it is.
The oversaturation of black commercial media discussing it in poor taste, does not invalidate its existence nor the forms of media that have done it well. And, we'll never see another great Boondocks or Atlanta if you don't allow the good and bad the right to exist.
