How is Greater Manchester building more housing while protecting nature?
Earlier this month, Tony Juniper and Marian Spain joined Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester Combined Authority to explore how they are implementing Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) into their wider Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS).
Highlights include:
💧exploring wetland features such as sustainable drainage systems in Northstone developments which are helping to take up water from heavy rainfall
🌳visiting a new Habitat Bank developed by Green Earth Developments Group, with 350 hectares of land being set aside for nature recovery
📗launching the consultation of the local authority’s LNRS, setting out a vision for a greener Greater Manchester for people and nature
This is a great example of how we’re working with local authorities to improve people’s connection with the natural environment.
