The 33-mile (53km) route from Shoreham-by-Sea to Eastbourne, links West to East Sussex and forms part of the 2,700-mile-long King Charles III England Coast Path. The trail encompasses the iconic white chalk cliffs of Sussex; fine sea views; the South Downs National Park with its abundance of wildlife, and the popular coastal towns of Shoreham-by-Sea, Brighton, Newhaven, Seaford and Eastbourne.
Setting off from Shoreham-by-Sea, you cross the River Adur estuary, where migratory wading birds and waterfowl can be seen on the saltmarsh and mud flats. The trail leads onto Hove and Brighton, where remains of West Pier can be spotted; the Brighton i360 viewing tower (the tallest structure in Sussex); the Palace Pier and the busy Marina. Castle Hill Local Nature Reserve and the nearby WWII gun emplacements and the 19th century Fort in Newhaven provide quieter opportunities to spot wildlife and see some of historical coastline defences. Cuckmere Haven near Seaford with its café and visitor centre, has spectacular views of the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs and the Cuckmere River meanders. From here, the KCIIIECP follows the clifftop path through the Seven Sisters Country Park, past Birling Gap, Belle Tout and Beachy Head, to arrive in Eastbourne.
