The Bihar government has issued a public advisory warning people against consuming unfamiliar or unusual fish found in flood-affected water bodies following flash floods in Nepal.
Authorities say floodwaters can carry fish from ponds, lakes and rivers over long distances, potentially exposing them to sewage, dead animals and other contaminants. Such fish may carry harmful bacteria, viruses and fungi, posing health risks if consumed.
The warning comes as floodwaters from Nepal continue to flow into the Gandak river system.
Citizens have been advised not to buy, sell or consume unidentified fish without official verification. Anyone experiencing vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, dizziness or breathing difficulties after eating such fish has been urged to seek medical attention immediately.
