A fresh political and social controversy has erupted in Kerala over remarks by Islamic scholar Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar on women and their participation in public life.
The controversy began after a circular issued by Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama said women should not be present on public platforms or share stages with men. Kanthapuram later said women should remain confined to their homes, triggering strong criticism.
Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has rejected the position, saying women cannot be confined within four walls and must participate in every aspect of public life.
