We've got an ambitious mission in the works to get 2 of our DHC-1 Chipmunks to AirVenture this year for the 80th anniversary of the airframe!
The Canadian Aviation Museum is based in Windsor (across from Detroit), so it is not a huge distance from KOSH; however, these rare warbird trainers cruise at 90 knots and are obviously VFR limited.
It will be a challenging trip. Adding to the pressure is a time crunch: we must meet a deadline to arrive and set up the display before Monday. Therefore, planning must determine whether we need to depart 1 or 2 days earlier than scheduled. Logistically, a lot is involved to make this happen. How do you plan something like this more than a week or two in advance?
And like many of you flying into KOSH from all over, we've already sunk real money into accommodations and other logistics that don't care whether the weather cooperates. That's why I'm planning this one with PlaneWX, and I'm pretty excited about it. Here's Mark, the founder, on why he built it:
