The spinup itself is much quicker, but the drive adds an extra mechanical dance for some reason. And as you can hear, the lower mass isn't even a main factor, because it spins up to lower speed only, which it shouldn't in my opinion, since the reading starts in the center where maximum speed is necessary. - I can only assume that large CDs somehow add stability to the whole drive with their flywheel character and that spinning a small CD that fast might cause trouble.
Speaking of flywheel... I love this drive's engine revving after eject. 😄
