GLP-1 medications are being used for more than weight loss, including treating heart and other chronic conditions such as kidney and liver disease and sleep apnea.

Now, researchers are also studying whether GLP-1 medications could play a role in treating addiction. Dr. Ania Jastreboff of Yale’s Obesity Research Center says researchers are studying patients with obesity and alcohol use disorder to determine whether semaglutide could help.

The clinical trial is still in its early stages, and researchers say there is still much to learn.
