On December 9, 2025, the quick thinking and teamwork of Frontier Middle School staff saved a life.

When a teacher suddenly collapsed in the classroom, Rick Ingham, Chari Wright, and Angel Pompa immediately rushed to assist and began life-saving CPR when they recognized she was not breathing. Kortnie Kanton promptly called 911 to activate emergency services, while Amy Wingerter and Melissa Pace alerted the front office for additional support. Karen Arteaga quickly responded by retrieving and bringing the AED, which was used until Central Pierce Fire arrived and transported the teacher to the hospital.

Later, the hospital nurse confirmed what we already knew—because of the swift actions, calm response, and teamwork of these staff members, this teacher’s life was saved.

We are incredibly proud of Rick, Chari, Angel, Kortnie, Amy, Melissa, and Karen for their professionalism, courage, and commitment to the safety of our school community. Their actions exemplify the very best of Frontier Middle School. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is proud to serve your school and know we have dedicated and trained staff that can handle a situation like this before we arrive.
