POV: you're a little girl. It's the 1850s. You live in the British Museum. And you're obsessed with your pet cat, Mouton.

It's fair to say Emilyâs illustrations rival Beatrix Potter and EH Shepard. Whether thatâs epic battles led by General Mouton, or Mouton eating boiled eggs with his hedgehog friend and arresting baddies. The final pages include a pencil lament about Moutonâs death and the pages are stained with tears, presumably Emilyâs.
