1970 Torino GT — cowl on hold, core support is next. Here's everything that has to come out of the engine bay before the new sheet metal goes in.
With the cowl repair on hold due to scheduling issues, the build shifts to the next major problem on this 1970 Torino GT: the rusted core support. Before the new battery tray apron and radiator core support section can go in, the entire front of the engine bay has to be stripped down to bare structure. This episode walks through what has to come out and off to get there — and in this one, we tackle the radiator and condenser.
The front sheet metal (fenders, hood, valance) came off in an earlier episode, so we're already looking at an open engine bay. The radiator pulls first: drain the coolant, disconnect the upper and lower hoses, free the transmission cooler lines, and unbolt it from the support. The condenser is more involved because the A/C system has to be properly recovered before any lines come apart — not vented to atmosphere. I cover what's worth doing yourself versus what's worth handing to a shop with a recovery machine.
I also walk through the rest of the checklist for what still has to come off before the new core support can be welded in — the hood latch, horns, brackets, and wiring routing — so you can see the full scope of the job before committing to it.
If you're working on a 1970–72 Torino, Ranchero, or Cyclone with the same core support rot (which is most of them at this age), the sequence here applies almost the same way.
