The seventh edition of the Berlin Climate and Security Conference (BCSC) explored climate, conflict, and cooperation in a turbulent era. Better coordination and innovative collaborations are needed more than ever. Through taking stock of leading practice and convening figures from government, implementation organisations, and research, it advanced actionable climate security solutions amid growing instability.
Hosted by International Alert, CrossBoundary Advisory and PeaceNexus Foundation
This session examined how fragile and conflict-affected settings, among the most vulnerable to climate change, receive the least climate finance, and explored ways to unlock private investment for green energy, agriculture, and nature-based solutions. Led by International Alert, CrossBoundary Advisory, and PeaceNexus Foundation, it drew on African experiences to demystify investor challenges, outline solutions including an investment facilitation platform, and highlight co-benefits such as resilience, clean jobs, reduced tensions, and strong returns.
Speakers:
• Ayan Harare, National Climate Finance Unit Coordinator, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Somalia
• Christian Ilunga Matthiesen, Adviser, Stabilisation Platform
• Marcos Sampablo, Managing Director, West Africa, CrossBoundary Advisory
• Kristen Petillon, Business Engagement Lead, PeaceNexus Foundation
• Moderated by Veronica Stratford-Tuke, Head of Peace Economies, International Alert
