The sixth edition of the Berlin Climate and Security Conference (BCSC) explored how to secure a climate for peace. The conference examined why climate must be integrated into peacemaking. Through taking stock of best practice examples, it advanced concrete climate security approaches and initiatives.

The global food crisis stems from governance, social, and economic challenges, with conflict being the primary driver. Guyana prioritized the nexus of climate change, conflict, and food insecurity during its UNSC tenure, using its presidency to host a high-level debate on these issues. This spotlight session shared insights and recommendations from a new report on the impact of climate change and food insecurity on international peace and security.

Speakers:
• H.E. Amb. Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations
• Moderated by H.E. Amb. Dr. Smiljana Knez, Ambassador-at-Large for Climate Diplomacy of Slovenia
