KQED Food | Bay Area Chef Leilani Baugh brings Cajun/Asian flavors to Oakland | KQED Food @KQEDFood | Uploaded July 2021 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
Chef Leilani Baugh has dubbed her signature cooking style as “Casian” - a fusion of the Cajun/Creole and Asian flavors she was raised on in her grandmothers’ kitchens. The short documentary 'Magnolia Street’ follows Baugh on a journey through her Oakland hometown, as she struggles to keep her restaurant and catering company afloat during the pandemic all while preparing meals for food insecure neighbors.
“I think one thing that both grandmothers taught me was to give. [My grandmother] would tell me things like ‘It’s a blessing to be a blessing to someone else’.”
A film by Brian Wollitz and Isabel Lyndon
Presented by KQED Truly CA.
