The Western Railway Museum BART cars are currently under modification and testing before public display. Stay tuned for future “BART days” and how you can see inside the cars and help out, in the coming weeks.
Testing out the 329. Probably the most requested thing about the C cars – the propulsion system. This is a recording of C1 Car 335 (youtube.com/watch?v=iHOlAnKeRAo) over the PA system. Something similar to this will happen to the cars, but using a new speaker system, in the coming months to years.
The 329 retains a complete BART Westinghouse propulsion system, with DC motors and chopper control. This system was a generational leap of technology, and used on the A and B cars until refurbishment in the 1990s and 2000s.
