BART Yellow Line: 9 Car Trains bartchives - ATP Transit 2025-09-30 | As of late September 2025, The Yellow Line now has 9 car trains, extended from the slightly shorter 8 car trains as rolled out under the 9/11/2023 change. Here are some clips taken during the weekend before the 9 car change was fully rolled out. In ATO, the 9th car sticks towards the rear of the train, leaving 1 car length of empty space ahead of the lead car. Additionally, there are now double the number of 8 car peak commute-only trains on the Red, Green, and Blue Lines. Previously, there were x2 trains 8 car trains per line, which have now bumped up to x4 8 car trains. Sacramento RT (Ex VTA): UTDC Fleet in Action (2019-2020) bartchives - ATP Transit 2025-05-19 | Now stored out of service, here are some clips of the Sacramento Regional Transit UTDC fleet (300 series). The UTDC SLRV cars were originally designed and built by RailTrans Industries of the Can-Car Rail facility, Thunder Bay, Ontario. They were built for Santa Clara County Transit and served as the original fleet of that system from opening day in 1987 to their replacement by the KinkiSharyo LRVs in the early 2000s. After replacement, they found new lives at Sacramento RT and UTA.Sacramento RT leased 21 of them in 2003 and they arrived on the property in 2004. Early plans called for the UTDC cars to be used in the operation of the South Line Phase 2 service and the augmented peak hour service in the Northeast Corridor. RT later purchased them outright. They sat for quite some time and were refurbished by Siemens with a contract awarded in 2012. The cars were renumbered in the 300 series and entered service around 2015/2016 on the Blue Line – and apparently were too large for the Gold Line. Also to note, the cars ran in trains of up to 3 cars instead of 4 since the UTDC cars were 88.5 feet long, contrasting to 80 feet long on the U2As. SacRT retired the cars in 2020/2021 and they have sat around the system in the years since. The hope is to have one of these cars preserved.UTA leased 29 of them, arriving in 2004, and later purchased them outright at a cost of $250k per. The cars were renumbered 1041-1069, with some recieving retrofits and others not. They were in service by 2010. They were retired by 2016 and auctioned in 2017.Apologies for the shaky and zoomed in video - this was before I had a gopro. This is the only footage I have of these cars in service.Both systems renumbered their cars so there isn’t a direct 1:1 formula. Sacramento RTs CAF SRV-I Cars: 200 Series bartchives - ATP Transit 2025-05-18 | The Sacramento RT 200 series were built by CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S.A.) and were delivered in ~2002 to 2003, supporting service expansions and supplementing the older Siemens 100 series. They are CAF SRV-I cars, numbered 201-240. Here they are in 2025.CAF opened a new plant in Sacramento to complete final assembly and testing of the cars. At the time, CAF won a series of contracts across the US including WMATA and PAT cars. They are a bit heavier than the original Siemens 100 series (47 tons vs 38.9 tons), a bit longer (84 feet vs 79.5 feet), with more complex brakes and propulsion systems. The CAF cars have sliding doors, more standing space.

Riding VTAs Oldest Bus in Service: 1007 in April 2025 bartchives - ATP Transit 2025-04-13 | The oldest busses in VTA’s active fleet are 2001 Gillig Low Floor (G27D102N4) that are still out in service about 24 years later. These are among the oldest transit busses in service in the region, and are probably not going to be rolling around in revenue service much longer. These appear to be mostly replaced by the 3400 series, as are the 2000s and 2100s old Gillig Low Floors. Here’s a ride on 1007 on route 66 to Milpitas, boarding in downtown San Jose, which I think was the only one in service during that day - making it the oldest bus in service.
BART: First look at 4600 series E Car in service bartchives - ATP Transit 2025-04-08 | As of April 2025, BART's newest revenue cars are the 4600s, part of an order for over 300 cars for the Core Capacity program - 30 trains per hour in Transbay Tube using CBTC. The orders will stretch the E car fleet into the 4800s, but here is the first I’ve seen in service of the 4600s, the 4604 on April 7, 2025 (Yellow Line). ACE Train New Cars (3314) First Ride bartchives - ATP Transit 2025-03-07 | First ride on the Series X/CEM cars of Altamont Corridor Express, which entered service in the latter half of 2024. They can be found on ACE train 07/08 as of the time of upload.These cars were part of a joint procurement with Sound Transit (Sounder) and NCTD/SANDAG (Coaster) for bilevel coach/cab cars. To my knowledge, Sound Transit has ordered 3 cab cars and 8 coaches, NCTD/SANDAG has ordered 3 Cab cars and 8 Coaches, and SJRRC (ACE) has ordered 5 Cab cars and 12 Coaches, plus exercised an option for 4 more coaches. The goal of the joint procurement was to lower the cost per car (economies of scale) and provide the following service expansions:Coaster – Ordered to support SANDAG 2050 Revenue Constrained Regional Plan, increased service level to 30 minute peak and 60 minute off peak (42 daily trains).ACE – Ordered to lengthen trains up to 10 cars per train.Sounder – Ordered for the Sounder S LineThe new cars have an aerodynamic cab, new lighting, upgraded door and HVAC systems, and structural changes related to Crash Energy Management.
