Today we’re taking a look at the new UK 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release of Barry Lyndon from Warner Bros. While Criterion handled the U.S. edition, this UK release comes directly from Warner and features both the 4K disc and the standard Blu-ray housed inside a premium steelbook.
The film is presented in its original 1.66:1 aspect ratio with a Dolby Vision HDR grade. The upgrade is excellent: colours look beautifully natural, detail is improved across the board, and the fine film grain remains intact, preserving Kubrick’s painterly visual style.
Audio includes the original mono track alongside a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix. Both sound clean and balanced, giving you the option to experience the film exactly as intended.
Extras, however, are minimal. The only bonus feature included is the original theatrical trailer. None of the Criterion supplements from the U.S. release appear here, so collectors wanting deeper context or archival materials will need to import that version.
Still, this is a strong 4K upgrade with a lovely steelbook presentation — it just won’t scratch the itch for bonus features.
