Old Gold Media continue their outstanding restoration work on The Sweeney with The Complete Series 3, presented in a 4-disc set that perfectly matches the previous two seasons on the shelf. Fans collecting the series will be pleased to see the same clean, consistent packaging design carried over once again.
As with Series 1 and 2, every episode in Series 3 has received a brand-new HD restoration, sourced from the best surviving film elements and presented in the original 1.33:1 broadcast aspect ratio. The results are excellent — strong clarity, natural colour reproduction, and a restrained, filmic grain structure that retains the gritty texture the show is known for, while offering a substantial upgrade over the old DVD masters.
Audio is presented with clean, faithful mono tracks alongside newly created 5.1 options. Dialogue is clear throughout, and the iconic theme music and score come through without distortion or harshness.
Series 3 itself is often considered one of the show’s strongest runs. John Thaw and Dennis Waterman are at the top of their game here, with darker cases, sharper writing, and increasingly confident production values as the series edges toward its final year.
Extras follow the same thoughtful approach as previous releases, including archival interviews, commentaries, and behind-the-scenes material. A collectors booklet is also included, featuring production information and original air dates — a really nice touch for fans.
Another excellent release from Old Gold Media, and a must-own for fans of classic British crime television.
