Barbara Stanwyck was an American actress and had a film and television career spanning over 60 years. She made her first film appearance in 1927 in "Broadway Nights" and married the comedian Frank Fay shortly afterwards in 1928. Her big breakthrough came in 1930 with her role in "Ladies of Leisure" directed by Frank Capra. She also made films with him such as "The Miracle Woman", "Forbidden" and "The Bitter Tea of General Yen". She reached the peak of her popularity in the mid-1940s. She starred alongside Gary Cooper in the film "Meet John Doe". Her best-known role was in the comedy "The Wrong Girl", in which she appeared alongside Henry Fonda, directed by Preston Sturges. In 1983 she was awarded an honorary Oscar for her life's work.

Robert Taylor made more than 70 feature films during his career. He made his film debut in "A Wicked Woman" and landed his first major role in 1935 in the film "Society Doctor". In the same year he starred alongside Irene Dunne in the film version of "Magnificent Obsession". He owed his popularity to appearances alongside Loretta Young ("Private Numbers"), Janet Gaynor ("Small Town Girl"), Joan Crawford ("The Gorgeous Hussy") and especially Greta Garbo ("The Lady of the Camellias").
Stanwyck and Taylor met when they shot the film "His Brother's Wife" together and were married from 1939 to 1951. The marriage remained childless.
