"How Long (feat. Panama Music)" by Bag Raiders

Many of you may think you don’t know who the Bag Raiders are, but you’d be mistaken. All of you do. Remember that viral meme where someone trips and falls and then starts falling through the entire galaxy accompanied by a song called “Shooting Stars”? Yeah, that’s them, with 189,130,591 plays on Spotify. Jack Glass and Chris Stracey are an Australian based electronic duo, acting as their own instrumentalists, producers, vocalists, and remixers. What you may not have heard yet, however, is their latest single release, “How Long,” featuring the ever-amazing Panama as a vocalist. Pause.
Panama is absolutely killing the game in 2019. Other than maybe Khalid and Anderson Paak., I haven’t seen anyone else’s name so continuously and so frequently pop up on my release radar. Given that Khalid and A. Paak. are actually pretty big these days, it’s even more impressive that Panama is doing it all on the lowkey. Jarrah McCleary, also from Australia as a Sydney native, has made his way through various electronic producers such as Satin Jackets, Hazey Eyes, Poolside, and more. Before this year, however, I’ve only known him as a phenomenal alt/indie pop artist from my high school and college years. Un-pause.
“How Long” is one of those quintessential dance/house tracks. The uptempo beat is bumping the entire time with subtle changeups to interweave the verses into the choruses. Aside from the eargasmic vocals, the difference between this track and all the others (in my opinion) are the tiny tinctures that patter atop the hi-hats and bassline. It’s the angsty brass interludes that make the listener feel the pain of not knowing “how long” he or she must wait for something they’ve wanted for a long time. This isn’t a track you’ll just hope to hear at Ultra or a Las Vegas pool party, it’s a track you’ll want to blast while you’re driving, while you’re working out, while you’re doing any kind of busy work--basically, while you’re doing anything (except for maybe trying to fall asleep). So, smile and rock out with me, everybody.
