When considering tank-building nations, Bulgaria is unlikely to be among the first three that comes to mind—or even among the top two dozen. Like most Warsaw Pact countries, Bulgaria primarily relied on imported Soviet vehicles rather than developing original designs. However, a rare exception to this trend surfaced during the waning years of Socialist Bulgaria: a proposal for a light amphibious tank derived from the domestically developed BMP-23 Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
