Rest in peace, baby Otis.

Otis was clinging to his mother’s back when she mistook a power cable for a tree branch. They were both electrocuted. His mother died instantly. Otis survived the initial shock—but only for a short while.

He arrived at our centre in Costa Rica with severe burns on his tiny body. But with electrocution, what you see on the outside is rarely the full story. Howler monkeys often suffer internal burns, bleeding, and organ failure—injuries that are tragically difficult to treat.

Uninsulated power cables are now the biggest threat to wildlife in Costa Rica. Otis is yet another heartbreaking victim of a completely preventable danger.
