Little Suri was almost lost in hardened tar covering literally every inch of her body. Saving her precious life took 10 loving hands working for hours. She was abandoned by her owner and left to die. We don’t know how long she’d been stuck in the tar, but she was almost unconscious from exhaustion, dehydration and heat stroke. Her tail was stuck to her thighs and her legs were stuck together. All she could move were her eyes. She couldn’t even cry for her mother anymore.

Our team went to work with vegetable oil and soap to melt the tar. We’ve learned from past experiences with puppies stuck in tar that it takes hours to soften the toxic tar. When Suri was finally freed from the grip of the tar, she nearly jumped for joy. And so did we.

He couldnt close or move his jaw, and his face showed utter bewilderment. But he shyly turned on his back in an act of pure submission, his tail wagging as if asking for help to stop the pain. When we sedated him and saw the full extent of the fractures in his jaw, we were truly worried that we might not be able to save him. But we tried our best. To our delight, he responded extremely well to the sutures, and was ready to start eating (on a liquid diet) by day 3. From then, we knew this incredibly sweet boy was going to thrive. Even in this puppys first weeks, his life force sparkles around him despite a devastating open fracture wound to his paw, and a wound on his head. He would have surely died if he hadnt been rescued. His mother literally gave the sweetest kiss as if to say “thank you” to our rescuer as he gently lifted her baby. Once on the treatment table the darling puppy was deeply confused and exhausted, but it only took a few days for him to feel so much better that he became a persuasive little play organiser with his new friend. Weve called him Alvin, and he is a tribute to the fact that every life, however new, has astounding meaning, and the meaning is love. The world needs more sweetness. And with so much tissue exposed, we knew a conventional bandage might not be enough to save her. Once she was on our treatment table and we could examine both her enormous wound and the excruciatingly painful leg fracture, we were relieved that she had enough skin remaining to close the wound with sutures. We prepped her for surgery and our surgeon carefully closed the entire wound on her torso. He was also able to close the open fracture wound before plastering her leg. This ordeal was enough to break anyones spirit, but not Mollys. She was gentle, kind and loving. Every moment. From the first seconds of her rescue, to the kisses she gave once she was healed. How much lovelier the world is with Molly in it.$
