A beautiful puppy only a few weeks old had been attacked by a wild animal. She had deep bite wounds at the top of her head and under her throat which caused swelling and infection. Her tail wagged a little and she tried to greet her rescuers but she couldn't even lift her head.

She was too little for such a horrible injury, and we knew if she didn't respond to antibiotics, she wouldn't stand a chance.

Gentle and fragile, we named this baby Sprinkles. She hovered on the brink of life and death for 8 days, but as soon as she started to perk up we knew she needed to be in the soft lap of her mother and siblings. And now, the Sprinkle is a downpour of love!

$Buffalo with horrific injuries and not able to stand, safe in permanent sanctuary. Collapsed and faint with pain, a huge female water buffalo lay dying in the rubble on the side of a road after an accident left her with a terrible leg fracture and horrific wound. Almost lifelessly inert, our rescue team, even with the help of several passers-by, had no way to lift her so we had to call for a crane to lift her to our ambulance and to safety. Her pain was unimaginable, but this enormous buffalo was too hurt to resist, and we rushed her back to our hospital, where we immediately began to do whatever we could to save such a sweet soul. We called her Amelia because the name sounded delicate and feminine exactly what we saw in this giant beauty. For weeks she couldnt stand on her own. Teams of sometimes ten volunteers and staff routinely stood together for the challenge of lifting her to her feet so that her blood circulation stayed healthy and her other limbs could bear weight. Slowly, slowly, the wound itself healed, but the fracture could never knit together properly and, permanently disabled, frustration showed in her eyes. But after a few months, something changed for Amelia. It wasnt just her improved mobility. It was something much bigger: Betty. She held her anxiety in her shoulders, in her mouth, and most of all in her eyes, which were filled with the greatest sorrow a mother watching her baby dying. But her posture alerted neighbors to look more closely at the grey mound in the grey soil and saw the little one still breathing. He twitched unconsciously. The little one was in critical condition and we hurried him to the hospital, and treated him for life-threatening hypothermia (cold), pain, and gave him IV drips to stabilize him after shock. He had no fractures but we cleaned and dressed several puncture wounds on his neck. He was still comatose when we lay him bundled in a basket, and he slept through the night. In the morning, we were delighted to find his eyes open: he had woken up from the coma! Now the next task would be to get him to eat if he would eat we knew he had a good chance of surviving. Her spine was damaged and her hind legs hung lifelessly behind her. The pain must have been horrible. When her rescuers approached, she looked terrified, but had no means of escaping them. She submitted, and only when on the treatment table in the hospital, as we began our initial assessment, did she relax a little. Our treatment protocol for spine injury is six weeks of bedrest. We always feel sorry that dogs dont understand why confinement is necessary, but for the swollen tissue or fracture to have any chance to heal movement must be kept to a minimum. We hoped that by being in a portable kennel, she would have plenty of stimulation with the sights and sounds all around her. After two weeks, daily physiotherapy sessions meant more than the slow introduction of movement. It meant touching, caressing and love. We named her Silky, and after her six weeks of rest, little changes led to big changes. Meet Silky now!...$ $Puppy’s jaw badly fractured after accident, now loves life!$
