Motorists saw a dog get hit by a car and alerted us immediately.

The dog lay lifelessly on the median as traffic rushed by and people gathered around the unconscious but breathing figure. When our rescuers lifted him, he didn't even flinch.

But within the time it took to reach our hospital, Trooper had regained consciousness though he was in terrible pain. We saw no open wounds, but discovered on examination that both his front legs were fractured.

We had to place him in two splints and confine Trooper to "bed rest" for a month, which in order to save this amazing boy. Meet Trooper now! We're pretty sure he thinks it was all "worth it!"

She held her anxiety in her shoulders, in her mouth, and most of all in her eyes, which were filled with the greatest sorrow a mother watching her baby dying. But her posture alerted neighbors to look more closely at the grey mound in the grey soil and saw the little one still breathing. He twitched unconsciously. The little one was in critical condition and we hurried him to the hospital, and treated him for life-threatening hypothermia (cold), pain, and gave him IV drips to stabilize him after shock. He had no fractures but we cleaned and dressed several puncture wounds on his neck. He was still comatose when we lay him bundled in a basket, and he slept through the night. In the morning, we were delighted to find his eyes open: he had woken up from the coma! Now the next task would be to get him to eat if he would eat we knew he had a good chance of surviving. Her spine was damaged and her hind legs hung lifelessly behind her. The pain must have been horrible. When her rescuers approached, she looked terrified, but had no means of escaping them. She submitted, and only when on the treatment table in the hospital, as we began our initial assessment, did she relax a little. Our treatment protocol for spine injury is six weeks of bedrest. We always feel sorry that dogs dont understand why confinement is necessary, but for the swollen tissue or fracture to have any chance to heal movement must be kept to a minimum. We hoped that by being in a portable kennel, she would have plenty of stimulation with the sights and sounds all around her. After two weeks, daily physiotherapy sessions meant more than the slow introduction of movement. It meant touching, caressing and love. We named her Silky, and after her six weeks of rest, little changes led to big changes. Meet Silky now!...$ $Puppy’s jaw badly fractured after accident, now loves life!$
