In this video you will see the moment that a baby cardinal chick breaks open its egg and gets its first breath of fresh air! The mother cardinal seems quite happy and immediately eats the broken egg shell. The baby cardinal chick is already instinctually opening its mouth for food just seconds after hatching. Notice how yellow the chicks abdomen section is, this is due to it's recent absorption of the egg yolk. The egg yolk with provide the chick nourishment for the first few hours. A very cool moment to watch!

The 7 day old sparrow chicks are rapidly growing! They are starting to develop feathers especially on their wings. The chicks size and strength is also increasing quickly. All three seem to be very health. The parents are busy all day now finding food to bring the chicks. The mother sparrow did not spend much time brooding them as they are able to retain heat without brooding for longer amounts of time. The parents are doing a great job but sure have their work cut out for them as the chicks get older!

These 3 day old cardinal chicks are growing quickly! They are getting stronger and require more food from their parents. The mother has been leaving the nest for longer durations to find food. She still broods them frequently though. Their eyes are still completely closed but should start showing signs of opening soon. The third egg is still in the nest and has not hatched. It will stay like this for the rest of the nesting period. Overall a comfortable day in the nest for these tiny chicks!
