Aran is one of the most physically bulky and physically powerful units in the series, sporting the highest Def stat out of everyone and one of the highest Str stats as well, which would be amazing if you just looked past the rest of his stats. Because of his lowish HP, some of the units that fail to one-shot with the masteries in ASF due to the lowered Str multiplying mastery skills, still one-shot him despite the damage being lower. He is also incredibly frail to magic units because of the HP stat that he has and his terrible Res. Perhaps the one thing that could salvage him the most would be if he had a good Lck stat for initiation to pair with his incredible offensive capabilities. But as you can see, he has one of the lowest Lck stats out of everyone in the series, making it so that he rarely initiates and basically loses to any unit with a magic tome. If he does survive the first turn or does the initiating, he will have a really good shot at winning even with one of the worst mastery skills in the game, Impale, because of how high his Str is.
