For a more in-depth look at autophagy, check out my blog! naomiwhittel.com/benefits-of-autophagy/?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=June%2017
This keto-friendly recipe is perfect for those trying to induce autophagy to promote younger looking skin and reduce the stress placed upon our bodies by chronic disease. I’m so excited to share a delicious, autophagy-inducing recipe with you all.
Some facts about autophagy:
· Autophagy = self-eating
· Cells seek to maintain homeostasis so they kill their own. Essentially, our bodies reset themselves so that we can be protected against stressors and toxins
· When on the ketogenic diet our bodies will begin to induce autophagy in a way similar to that which occurs while fasting.
· As your body shifts from being glucose-dependent to fat-dependent, autophagy allows the body to maintain energy homeostasis and create benefits from the starvation as opposed to detriments.
Yields: 1 serving (prep 5 minutes, cook time 5 minutes)
2 cups mixed greens
1/4 cup cooked black beans (10 grams of carbs)
1/2 large avocado chopped
2 tablespoons of fresh salsa (2.4 grams)
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
Fresh lime juice
Sea salt
1/4 cup broccoli sprouts
(cumin, lime juice, sea salt, avocado oil and 1 tbs whole mct oil for dressing)
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, combine the mixed greens, beans, and avocados
2. Add the salsa and cilantro and toss to combine
3. Mix cumin, lime juice, sea salt and avocado oil in a bowl to create the dressing.
4. Add dressing and top with broccoli sprouts and serve.
You may have noticed that we’ve dedicated a few videos in the last few weeks to the subject of autophagy. While this is new for many of you, it is a word to take note of as this is very important function that takes place in the body and one that can completely rejuvenate and refresh your microbiome, leaving you looking younger, glowing, and has myriad health benefits, most of which are mind-blowing. In fact, such is its growing importance and breakthrough in the world of nutrition and wellness, that renown Japanese scientist, Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi, to whom the Nobel Prize was awarded in 2016, dedicated his life to its study. I was given the rare honor of visiting and talking to the esteemed Dr. Ohsumi recently (the video is available to view on this channel) and it was a dream come true, as not only do I find his studies absolutely fascinating, but they inspired me to learn more and write my book, Glow15, which, to my surprise went on to become a New York Times Bestseller.
If you’re new to this channel, I highly recommend subscribing to receive notifications about upcoming videos (and there will be plenty!), on autophagy, how to activate it and what it can do for you. It is a subject of profound depth and endless fascination, and my intention is to explore it in every detail with the help the world’s foremost experts, and share as much with you through this channel. I consider it a platform for sharing my exploration into wellness, and a springboard for helping you lead a healthier, happier life.
Thank you as always for watching!
Naomi :)
