A Monkey Automaton - Der Rosenkavalier (The Knight of the Rose). 16 inches tall and made of papier mache & wood, the four levers operate a nod, a turn of the head, the offer of a Rose and a smile. Made in Paris around 1840, the anthropomorphic figure is notable for its very fine quality wig and silk tailcoat. All original and rare at this date, museum quality in its sculptural form.
