Thanks to Dot Caffrey for this. As well as you choosing to save a snapshot of your current chapter so you can revert to it later, you can tell Scrivener to automatically create a snapshot of your whole book every time you manually save it. Go to Settings, General, then Saving and tick on “Take snapshots of changed text documents on manual save”.
