This year Austal turns 35!

Established in Henderson, Western Australia on 8th August 1988, Austal (ASX:ASB) is Australia’s global shipbuilder.

As a #team we’ve achieved so much, in a relatively short period of time; growing from a small aluminium crayfish boat builder to one of the world’s leading defence prime contractors and commercial shipbuilders.

Now employing well over 5,000 people across 5 shipyards and 9 service centres, located in 4 countries, Austal is delivering innovative ships, systems and support to navies, coast guards, police forces and commercial operators around the world.

In fact, we’ve been contracted to deliver more than 350 ships, for 122 operators in 59 countries over the past 35 years.

Today, we’re proud to be a proven capability partner to Australia’s National Naval Shipbuilding Enterprise, delivering 8 x Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats to the Royal Australian Navy and 22 x Guardian-class Patrol Boats to Defence Australia, for our Pacific Island neighbours.

In FY2023 alone, we have delivered 4 x Evolved Capes to the Navy and 1 x Guardian to Defence Australia, from where it all began. We continue to provide in-service support to the Navy, the Australian Border Force and our Pacific Island neighbours through our service centres located in Henderson, Darwin and Cairns.

In the United States, Austal USA is delivering multiple programs for the @US Navy, including 19 x Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ships, 16 x Spearhead-class Expeditionary Fast Transport ships, 5 x Towing, Salvage and Rescue Ships, 7 x Ocean Surveillance Ships, an Auxiliary Floating Dock (Medium) and up to 11 Offshore Patrol Cutters for the US Coast Guard.

Further demonstrating the key role Austal is playing in the US defence industrial base and the #AUKUS alliance, the Mobile, Alabama team are also constructing command modules for Virginia-class submarines and aircraft elevators for the Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers.

In Asia, our shipyards in The Philippines and Vietnam offer shipbuilding expertise, modern and efficient facilities, and proven capability to deliver defence and commercial vessels to Austal’s renowned quality standards, cost effectively.

Take a look back with us and share in our team’s pride, as we celebrate 35 years of Austal.
