The anthem was composed by Hanns Eisler (1898-1962), an Austrian composer who fought in a Hungarian regiment during the Great War. "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" was the national anthem of East Germany (the German Democratic Republic) from 1949 until 1990. When German reunification occurred, the East German anthem was relinquished and "Deutschlandlied" became the national anthem of unified Germany.

The Presidential Anthem was composed in the 1960s or 1970s by Kim Sung-tae, with lyrics by Park Mok-wol, during the presidency of Park Chung Hee. The hymn was performed to honor presidents of South Korea in ceremonial settings until it fell out of use with the advent of President Kim Young-sams civilian government in the 1990s. Pictured in the video is the presidential standard of Korea.
