Auckland Council Libraries is the largest public library network in Australasia and the largest public library system .Established in 2010 through the merger of seven council library services, it now operates 56 branches and a mobile library service across the Auckland region, serving approximately 1.6 million people.
The library network holds a collection of around 3.4 million physical and digital items. Each year, Aucklanders borrow approximately 14 million items, including more than 6 million e-books and audiobooks, placing Auckland Libraries among the world's leading public library systems for digital lending.
The network also operates Te Wheke, the largest automated library materials handling and sorting facility in the Southern Hemisphere, which processes approximately 12,000–15,000 items each day for distribution between branches.
Auckland Libraries welcomes around 6.75 million physical visits annually and provides collections in 36 languages, reflecting the region's diverse population. Library membership is free for Auckland residents, and visitors are welcome to use library spaces and many onsite services.
