If you're planning a trip from Apia to Savai'i, here's what my journey was like using public transport instead of a taxi.
I stayed at Faith Accommodation in Apia and caught a local bus to the Mulifanua Ferry Terminal for just 5 tala. A taxi transfer would have cost around 70 tala, so taking the bus was a great way to save money.
That said, the local bus isn't for everyone. It gets very crowded, especially closer to departure times. If you're travelling with large suitcases, you may find it difficult to manage as luggage space is limited. Be prepared to sit or stand very close to other passengers, and don't be surprised if the driver has loud music playing during the journey,it's all part of the local experience!
Once you arrive at the ferry terminal, you can choose between Regular and VIP ferry tickets. I opted for VIP, which includes access to a smaller, air-conditioned seating area, along with a complimentary drink and snack. If you prefer a quieter and more comfortable crossing, it's worth considering.
When you arrive at either side of the ferry route, you'll find local buses and taxis available to continue your journey, making it easy to reach your next destination whether you're heading into Apia or exploring Savai'i.
