Theology Unleashed | Atonement Theories on Trial | Interview with Joshua R. Farris @TheologyUnleashed | Uploaded February 2022 | Updated October 2024, 15 hours ago.
Coming from an eastern theology perspective many Christina atonement theories seem problematic such as the idea that Jesus paid for our sins on the cross. In this discussion I will ask a christian scholar to offer defences of some atonment theories while I offer eastern insitpired objections and present an alternative view on salvation.
Joshua R. Farris is the Professor of Theology of Science at a new global school called Missional University. He is a consultant/curriculum developer for Raising Families, ordained in the Evangelical Episcopal Church. Dr. Farris has edited, authored, co-authored books and journals on a variety of subjects in analytic theology, philosophy of religion, systematic theology, the atonement, beatific vision, theistic personalism, and the soul-body relationship. He has recently completed a new work for a mainstream intellectual audience, entitled: The Created Self: A Defense of the Soul to be published later this year with John Hunt, Iff publishers. He is also finishing a co-edited work with Joanna Leidenhag on the origin of the soul and recent his co-edited volume on idealism and immaterialism with Benedikt Paul Gocke was published with Routledge press. He plans to continue researching and writing on sexuality, the soul in science discourse, formation, the atonement, and other relevant anthropology issues. He was previously the Assistant Professor of Theology at Houston Baptist University, the first Anglican (second Protestant) to occupy the Chester and Margaret Paluch Professor of Theology at Mundelein Seminary, University of Saint Mary of the Lake.
