The caste system in India is often criticized and used as evidence that Vedic Culture is crude and oppressive. But does the modern state of the oppressive caste system represent Vedic culture and wisdom, or is it simply a degraded and polluted shadow of the once great Vedic Civilization of the past? Mother Urmila is working on a book called "Career Dharma: The Natural Art of Work" in which she demonstrates that the Vedic system is in fact a genius way of structuring society for peace, prosperity and happiness. The original system is based on qualities and it divides up types of work based on what motivates people and what incentivize appeal to them. If applied properly corruption would decline and quality of work would go up because people would be rightly situated.
Urmila devi dasi (Dr. Edith Best) has a has a PhD in education. She is the chair of the Sastric Advisory Council to the GBC, an associate editor of Back to Godhead, and formerly a professor of Sociology of Religion at Bhaktivedanta College. She travels worldwide teaching Krishna consciousness, and is the author of Essence Seekers, Dr. Best Learn to Read, an 83-book literacy program, and The Great Mantra for Mystic Meditation.
