About Prem Sahib
Born in London in 1982, Sahib is a British artist of Indian Polish descent. Sahib works primarily in sculpture, installation, performance, sound, and photography. They received a BA in fine art in 2006 from the Slade School of Art, London; an MA in material and visual culture in 2008 from University College London; and a post-graduate diploma in fine art in 2013 from the Royal Academy of Arts, London. Often minimal and sparse in color, Sahib’s work explores themes including relationships, intimacy and sexuality, community, alienation, and confinement. Their work is informed by an interest in the architecture of meeting places, particularly for gay and queer communities.
Sahib's solo exhibitions include Balconies, Kunstverein Hamburg (2017); "Side On," ICA London (2015); "Tongues," Jhaveri Contemporary, Mubai (2014); and "Back Chat," Galleria Lorcan O’Neill, Rome (2013). Sahib has exhibited in group shows including at the Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines; the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea; KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin; Migros Museum of Contemporary Art, Zurich; Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah, UAE; and Whitechapel Gallery, London. Their work is in the collections of The Arts Council Collection, UK; Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Oslo; Government Art Collection, UK; the Museum of Old and New Art, Tasmania; and Tate.
