Ask Max: What SATA Cable Do I Need?
I was asked by a viewer what SATA cable I used in TBT 6 - The Cheapest New Dell Upgrades: SSD and RAM install!, and although the basic answer is simple, the longer answer isn't! So I decided to take a deeper dive on the topic of SATA cables in general to give other viewers a little more insight into what they should consider when selecting their cables. Also, this is not an ultimately comprehensive guide. There are other types of SATA cable construction (180 degree left, 180 degree right, multi-drive, multi-cable bundles, Slimline SATA, Micro SATA, etc), but I feel I hit the high notes of what most people should expect to encounter the most frequently.
I'd stick to name brands that at least have plenty of positive reviews... Typically these are suppliers like Amazon Basics, Cable Matters, Monoprice, StarTech, etc. I just wouldn't buy any of the unknown brands with 1 or 2 user reviews anywhere.
