When it's time for the Asian giant tortoise (Manouria emys) to lay her eggs, you may be lucky enough to see the female fix a nest pile by digging and pushing soil behind her. After laying the eggs she stays nearby to protect them from predators. It's a unique behaviour for this species – other tortoises just dig a hole in the ground where they lay the eggs and then leave them to fend for themselves.
This time the eggs unfortunately were unfertilized and will not hatch.
