When the southern dunlins return you know that spring is coming!
The season's first southern dunlins have now been reported from the well-known breeding sites in Ottenby and Beijershamn on Öland. During the winter, they have stayed along sea and lake shores in their wintering areas far from snow and freezing cold.
Usually males arrive first at the breeding sites where they change into their finest plumage and maintain territory. Females arrive a few weeks later. In the video, a male is in the process of impressing the females with this year's song and dance show.
