Today six European ground squirrels from Zoo Hluboka in the Czech Republic moved in. Two males get to befriend our females while our males get to enjoy the company of four new females. Fingers crossed there will be many babies in the spring.
The charismatic ground squirrel is one of Europe's most endangered mammals and active release projects are underway to save the species. We are proud to actively participate by sending ground squirrels born here on Nordens Ark to the Czech Republic where they are released into the wild.
