This is the project video for Darius Degel's bachelor's thesis in the computer science department at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, from spring 2026.

Virtual Reality (VR) is a market currently dominated by a few companies. While the web is open and facilitates the creation and publication of content, VR tools are closed and incompatible with each other. This work investigated how using open tools and formats increases compatibility among manufacturers and lowers barriers to entry for VR content creation.

For this purpose, the open-source game engine Godot and the open standard GL Transmission Format (glTF) were used. A VR application was developed using Godot that downloads and displays 3D scenes in glTF format from the internet at runtime. The application was created within the context of the ArchiVR platform, a project at Bern University of Applied Sciences that provides a service for uploading and downloading 3D scenes. Frames per second (FPS) metrics were used for evaluation.
