North Arapaho Peak, elevation 13,513’, is the high point of Indian Peaks Wilderness and “One of the finest peaks in the Front Range” according to Gerry Roach. The most popular route to climb this peak is via neighboring South Arapaho Peak (an unranked 13er) by way of Fourth of July Trailhead. This is the second time I did this route and I enjoyed it as much as the first time. There is a nicely maintained trail up to S Arapaho. The traverse from S to N Arapaho is about 3/4 mile long and involves one short class 4 slab and a few solid class 3 sections. Route-finding is not difficult as there are painted arrows along the way but they can be a bit confusing at times. The view along the entire hike is what makes this one a true classic. I did it in mid-July, and wildflowers were near the peak. One also gets to enjoy waterfalls, views of Arapaho Glacier/Tarn and many peaks up/down the Front Range. Total stats: 10 miles with 3600’ elevation gain
